ARTIST STATEMENT

Empathy and emotion are central to encouraging humanity and the care of the beings and places of our surroundings. My core motivation is to create art that shares something that is emotionally important to me and my hope is that some of my emotion is imparted to a viewer. I often use the form of a dress as a means of self-portraiture.

It is critical that I utilize materials that support or enhance my conceptual ideas. I like to push materials such as glass and steel in unexpected ways to demonstrate their strength as well as their fragility.  These seemingly competing forces are captivating and also reflect the dynamic tensions of daily life.

I would like viewers of my work to feel the contrasting, internal and external, forces contained within our surroundings. I want to celebrate awe-inspiring forms of nature and commiserate on the tragedies and triumphs of being human in a time when we cannot help but be increasingly cognizant of our impact on any environment.
